Pool Tiling & Coping

Cracked tiles and lifting coping are more than cosmetic — they let water get behind the shell and into the surrounding soil. We replace waterline tiles and coping across the Gold Coast.

what is it

What are waterline tiles and coping?

Waterline tiles run along the inside of the pool at the waterline — protecting the shell from chemical exposure and providing a finished edge between the water and the coping. Coping is the capstone material that sits along the top edge of the pool wall, forming the border between the pool and the surrounding deck.

Both are practical and structural, not just decorative. When they fail, water can get behind the pool shell, causing damage that is expensive to fix.

Signs you need it

Signs your tiles or coping need attention

When does a pool need resurfacing?

Cracked, hollow-sounding, or lifting tiles along the waterline

Grout lines that are discoloured, crumbling, or missing

Visible cracks, chips, or flaking on the pool shell

Water seeping behind the coping or into garden beds alongside the pool

benefits of fixing it early

why fix it sooner than later?

When does a pool need resurfacing?

Stop water ingress before it becomes structural

Water behind the shell leads to soil movement, rust in the rebar, and eventually cracking in the concrete structure itself.

Avoid a bigger job later

Replacing a few tiles now is far cheaper than replacing tiles, substrate waterproofing, and repairing shell damage in 12 months.

Combine with other work for a better price

If your pool is already being drained for resurfacing, tiling and coping can be done in the same visit at lower combined cost.

How it works

Typical Process

On-site inspection & fixed-price quote

We check tile and coping condition, substrate integrity, and expansion joint health.

Removal

Existing tiles and coping are carefully removed and disposed of.

Substrate preparation

The bonding surface is cleaned and any waterproofing issues are repaired.

Installation

New tiles or coping are set using a pool-rated adhesive and grout, with expansion joints sealed in flexible sealant.

Sealing & cleanup

Grout lines are sealed, the site is cleaned, and the pool is refilled if it was drained.

Gold Coast

Gold Coast Considerations

Local factors that affect your job

Tiles and grout within 5km of the Gold Coast coastline need to be specified for salt-air exposure. Standard construction adhesives and sealants are not rated for pool chemical environments. We use marine-grade tile adhesives and pool-specific sealants in all installations — not general-purpose construction products.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

Often yes, if the damage is isolated and the surrounding tiles are still structurally sound. We’ll advise on whether a spot repair or a full strip and reline is the better long-term value after the inspection. In pools 15+ years old, full replacement is usually the smarter investment.

Yes — waterline tile and full coping work requires a partial or full drain. We handle the drain-down and coordinate refill and chemical balance on completion.

Sometimes. If the original tiles are a standard product still in production, we can often source a match. If they’re discontinued, we’ll show you options that blend as closely as possible — or recommend upgrading the full waterline to a consistent new finish.

Yes. Any pool tiling or coping work over $3,300 (incl. GST) in Queensland must be done by a QBCC-licensed contractor. You can verify at my.qbcc.qld.gov.au.
